I am a firm believer that there can only be one dress that is meant for you. When you find the perfect dress, you know. It is actually very emotional putting on the dress that you know you are going to get married in.

In the case of the Hong Kong culture, a Bride may decide to have more than one wedding dress; so there is one for the ceremony, which is usually more classical and compliments the face and neckline. And then there is another one which may have a long train that creates the wow effect when marching in.

When my clients ask me how to decide on the dresses in face of so many selections, I always suggest them to wait it out. Many times I see Brides are forced to use their initial deposits on other evening gowns, bridesmaid dresses, mother gowns etc., after visiting numerous bridal shops and signing up a package every time. Seriously, the promotion can wait, you should really take your time in choosing the right one. If it becomes a dilemma in picking between two wedding dresses, just close your eyes and visualize yourself at the ceremony, and your heart will tell you which one it is. It worked well for me. J You can also ask questions like: Do I like it as a dress? Or do I really see it as MY wedding dress?

So ladies, have faith in yourself, and good luck.

Being a Bride-to-be and a wedding designer is not something I have imagined as I struggle to balance myself of being a professional planner and prepping to be a blushing bride at the same time (I’ll be getting married in Bali this November!). And putting my shoes in this new role for the first time, it gives me a whole new perspective of the emotional ups and downs of a bride, and hence also turning into a Bridezilla!

From Wikipedia. A bridezilla (a neologistic portmanteau of bride and Godzilla) is a difficult, unpleasant, perfectionist bride who leaves irritated family, friends and bridal vendors in her wake.

There are a few pointers I constantly remind myself, which I believe are paramount to maintaining a good attitude towards wedding planning:

-Respect. Yes, it might be all about you and the wedding, but at the end of the day, it’s a union of two families, and these are people whom you will be involved with for the rest of your life, so do get their confirmation and blessings for big items.

-Your Other Half. Most of the time guys just put on their tuxedo and hope nothing goes wrong. But apart from that, one should try to accommodate their feelings. After all, you do want a picture perfect day, with your groom blooming together with you.

-Put on a Big Smile. No matter how many times you rehearse or how meticulous the big day is planned out, it is never going to be 100% perfect and there are things in life that are just beyond our control. So, please don’t stress over the small details (because most of the time guests don’t even notice) and just fully embrace and enjoy this important day of you life.

Although white is the safest bet and it will go perfectly with your assumingly white wedding dress, one may also consider choosing a different color – wedding theme color, red for auspiciousness in Chinese, blue (something blue) for Western tradition. The color just pops out so nicely!

Yellow is not a color of my favorite, and it’s not a color I would normally choose for clothes, shoes, food, decorations, well, practically anything… But somehow I have always been drawn to this zesty color when it comes to weddings. It is not a common choice for Brides in Hong Kong either; even for weddings held outdoor or during day time, pink and lavender remain the top picks. I mean even for my own wedding, the yellow theme came very close, but at the end it turns out to be a pale pink, light gray, shabby chic summer themed wedding (I’ll talk more about this theme next time).

Yellow is such a versatile tone: it is refreshing and zesty against white and lime green colors. You could even use fresh lemons as decorations.
